For Petterson, figure work is about much more than depicting a naked body. He sees each piece as a record of a person in a particularly vulnerable moment and an opportunity to interpret and tell their story through his own eyes.
His work is rooted in classical tradition with a contemporary perspective. Originally from Idaho, he is now based between Southern California and Rome, where he continues to deepen his study of classical art. His background as an engineer and master automotive fabricator also brings a uniquely inquisitive approach to his work across oil, charcoal and clay.
