SCFTA presents Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra on September 19
As Segerstrom Center for the Arts (SCFTA) celebrates their 40th anniversary of bringing arts to Orange County, they have announced an expanded commitment to Hispanic and Latino arts and culture across their stages and education and community programs. The Center launches their first ever Artist in Residence program with multi-GRAMMY Award-winning composer, pianist and bandleader Arturo O’Farrill. O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra make their Segerstrom Center debut on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The concert opens both the Center’s 2026-27 Jazz Series and the new ¡VIVA! The Spenuzza Series, which celebrates the richness, influence and continuing evolution of Hispanic and Latino artistic traditions.

Arturo O’Farrill will perform with the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra in the inaugural Artist in Residence program
As Segerstrom Center’s inaugural Artist in Residence, O’Farrill will appear in three performances during the 2026-27 season. His opening concert brings together Afro-Cuban rhythms, contemporary jazz, bold big-band arrangements and the virtuosic musicianship of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
Founded at Jazz at Lincoln Center and led by O’Farrill, the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra is internationally recognized for their expansive approach to Latin jazz, blending cultural traditions with contemporary composition and improvisation. The ensemble was recently named Large Ensemble of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association. O’Farrill is a six-time GRAMMY Award winner and two-time Latin GRAMMY Award winner whose work spans jazz, Latin music, orchestral composition, dance and education. As founder and artistic director of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and Belongó, he has built a career advancing artistic collaboration, cultural exchange and new possibilities in jazz.
